Text: Mathew 5:4
You may find it difficult to believe that any blessing or comfort can come from mourning. Mourning is painful. Mourning can be lonely. Mourning can feel like it will last forever. But, of course, if you fail to turn towards God in your mourning, you may never truly be comforted. Instead, when you mourn without God, you increase the likelihood of wallowing in self-pity, regret, bitterness and anger. You might even become lost in hopelessness and despair. Sadly, you will never experience His healing presence as He comes alongside you and wraps His loving arms around you. You may also never enjoy the abiding hope that only He provides. Since God is available and ready to support you, why not turn to Him? In your grief, why not seek Him? Turn to Him and be comforted even if your mourning results from sin. Jesus in Matthew 5:4 says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”. In other words, those who turn to God in their mourning will discover that He is right there next to them.
